How do I finance a crane?

Avanti Equipment Finance finances mobile cranes — rough-terrain, all-terrain and truck-mounted hydraulic cranes, crawler cranes, and carry-deck and mini crawler cranes — new or used, from a dealer, an auction or a private seller. Every credit profile is considered, with amounts from $20K to $500K+ and terms up to 72 months. Smaller cranes fit app-only programs with no tax returns; larger cranes are structured with a financial package so the payment fits what the machine earns. Most applicants get a decision in about 24 hours from a quick pre-qualification.

Why finance with Avanti

A crane is the machine that lets a contractor bid the work everyone else has to sub out — steel and precast erection, HVAC and rooftop sets, bridge and utility work, plant maintenance, the lifts a boom truck can't reach. It is also one of the biggest single purchases a business makes, and it should be financed like one. We finance mobile cranes of every class, new or used, from a dealer, an auction or a private seller: rough-terrain cranes for the jobsite, all-terrain and truck-mounted cranes that road between jobs, crawlers for the long project, carry-deck and mini crawler cranes for plant and interior work. Smaller units fit the app-only program. Larger cranes get structured properly — a financial package, a term matched to the machine's working life and the contracts it will run on, and a payment the crane can cover from its own billing — and the decision still comes back fast, so you don't lose the unit to another buyer. Every credit profile is considered, and you'll know exactly where you stand before you put a deposit down.

Which cranes we finance

Any mobile or self-propelled crane built for lifting, financed as one unit with its boom, jib and counterweight:

  • Rough-terrain cranes — the jobsite crane on big tires with a single cab
  • All-terrain cranes — road-legal carriers with a separate driving cab, from small taxi cranes to multi-axle units
  • Truck-mounted hydraulic cranes on a commercial chassis, the step up from a boom truck
  • Crawler cranes, telescopic and lattice, for the long project
  • Carry-deck, industrial and mini crawler (spider) cranes for plant, interior and tight-access work
  • New units from a dealer, and used cranes from a dealer, an auction or a private seller
  • Boom trucks and truck-mounted booms
  • Knuckleboom and articulating cranes

How a larger crane deal is structured

Under $300k, app-only programs are often available with no tax returns. Over $300k, plan on a financial package — the last two years of tax returns, a balance sheet, a P&L and bank statements — so the payment can be set from what the business actually earns.

Time in business, existing crane revenue and work under contract all strengthen the file, and equipment you already own can be pledged to lower the cash at closing. A newer business buying its first crane should plan on a meaningful down payment; you'll hear the exact expectation before you commit.

  • Using owned equipment to lower the down payment
  • Financing as a newer business

What to send us about a used crane

A listing or invoice lets us review the actual machine instead of a price alone. Have these details ready:

  • Make, model, year, serial number and asking price
  • Rated capacity, main boom length, jib and counterweight configuration
  • Engine and crane hours, and chassis mileage on a road-going unit
  • Date of the most recent annual inspection, plus any load-test or third-party certification paperwork
  • Dealer, auction or private seller's name and contact information
  • Known condition issues on the boom, wire rope, hydraulics and outriggers, and any maintenance records
  • The down payment you have available and your business start date
  • Buying from a private seller or at auction
  • See the application document checklist

Documents depend on your application

You can start with a short application and the equipment details. We will let you know what supporting documents your profile requires. If bank statements are requested, provide:

  • Last 3 months of business bank statements — all pages, PDF downloads from online banking (no photos or partial pages)
  • Estimate a crane payment
  • Apply for crane financing

Crane financing at a glance

The program, stated plainly: what qualifies, what it takes, and what to expect.

Crane financing at a glance
Equipment financedNew, used and higher-hour mobile, rough-terrain, all-terrain, crawler, carry-deck and mini cranes. The term is set by hours, condition and the amount financed — no blanket model-year cutoff.
Where you can buyDealers, auctions and private sellers. A private-party purchase gets the same terms as a dealer deal — the title, any lien payoff and direct payment to the seller are handled for you.
Credit profilesEvery profile — A-paper to challenged credit, thin credit, past (discharged) bankruptcy, and startups under two years in business.
Amounts and terms$20,000 to $500,000+ with terms up to 72 months.
Down paymentStrong credit and time in business can mean $0 down. Challenged credit (under 600) typically pairs with 30–40% down; there is no blanket model-year rule on iron — hours and condition set the term. Owned, titled equipment can be pledged to lower the cash at closing, and you'll know the number before you put a deposit on anything.
PaperworkApp-only programs with no tax returns on many deals under $300,000. Over $300,000, plan on a financial package — two years of tax returns, a balance sheet, a P&L and bank statements. Bank statements are asked for on smaller deals only when the credit profile calls for them.
Decision and fundingDecisions in as little as 24 hours from a short online application. Avanti coordinates funding through its lending partners, paid directly to the seller — usually within a few days — for businesses in 49 states, fully remote.

Frequently asked questions

What types of cranes do you finance?

Rough-terrain, all-terrain and truck-mounted hydraulic cranes, crawler cranes, and carry-deck, industrial and mini crawler cranes — new or used, from a dealer, an auction or a private seller. Truck-mounted boom trucks and knuckleboom cranes are financed too, on their own pages.

Do you finance used cranes?

Yes. Used and higher-hour cranes are financed regularly, with the term set by the machine's age, the amount financed, and your credit profile. A current annual inspection and load-test paperwork strengthen the file.

What paperwork does a crane deal need?

Under $300k, app-only programs are often available with no tax returns. Over $300k, expect a full financial package — the last two years of tax returns, a balance sheet, a P&L and bank statements.

Can a newer business finance a crane?

It's possible, but a crane is usually a step-up purchase. A newer business should plan on a meaningful down payment, and existing lifting revenue or work under contract makes the file much stronger. We'll tell you honestly where you stand before you commit.

Can I buy a crane at auction or from a private seller?

Yes. Auction and private-party purchases get the same terms as a dealer purchase. We verify the machine and the seller, coordinate any existing lien payoff and the title, and coordinate direct payment to the seller.

How long does a crane approval take?

Decisions come in as little as 24 hours. Larger tickets that need a financial package can take a little longer once documents are in — sending them upfront speeds everything up.
